Yesterday evening, I installed the K-Lite Codec Pack and as far as I
have been able to determine, when I did this it installed a botnet
called "Infatica P2B".
Luckily for me, I found it this morning and looked it up. The home page
....
I emailed the codecguide.com people (the website where I obtained the
K-Lite Codec Pack Standard setup file) and asked them to explain why
they installed this thing in the background. We'll see what they have to
say for themselves.
In the meantime, I want you to know that I did due diligence and scanned
I don't use CodecGuide, but FreeCodecs. I wonder whether this problem

or file server had been compromised....

I'm somewhat surprised that codec packs are still required.
I haven't installed any codecs for years, probably since Windows XP.
Because you are too young. Back then even MPEG was new technology and
there was hardware adapter to decode them, just like CUDA for games now.

BTW... many porn movies (notably Japanese?) are in old format AVI.
Welll... those were the days. :)
