Can anyone tell me the purpose of posting constant updates of the SAME
software again and again? Seems to me this newsgroup is no longer a
discussion group.
1. Many people use the programs being posted about and appreciatesoftware again and again? Seems to me this newsgroup is no longer a
discussion group.
knowing that there are updates to those programs.
2. Many people have never even heard about some of the programs in the
first place and appreciate learning that they exist, since Allan always
includes program descriptions.
3. Usenet, in general, is dying. This group, however, is still very much
active and Allan's posts are about FREEWARE, which makes them TOTALLY ON
TOPIC.
Now... how about YOU telling us all why you think Allan's posts are a
bad thing.
existence is fine, but ONCE is enough. If I DO have the software, I'll
get a prompt about an update. If I somehow miss the prompt, again, ONCE
is enough. Are users so unconscious that they need AlanH to remind them
that they got an update prompt?
There are many regulars, and I'm betting most of them disagree with you.
I agree with you, Usenet is indeed dying. A shame.
Well to be fair, there are a lot of newsgroups (especially in the althierarchy) which never had much, if any, discussion within them to begin
with.

I personally filter out crossposting (posting to multiple newsgroups at
a time), anything from various trolls and especially anything from
dizem.com. If you do the same, the group will be easier for you to read.
