Discussion:
Anything like Total Uninstall 2.35 in 64 bit?

I found this website:

https://www.raymond.cc/blog/monitor-software-installs-remove-leftovers-install-monitor/

1. Advanced Uninstaller Pro is disliked by many in this group because
it's bloated and has in the past come with bundleware.

2. Mirekusoft Install Monitor requires that a service running in the
background (MspySvcHost.exe) that constantly watches for installations.

3. Primo looks promising, has anybody tried it?

4. Although the site claims that TU 2.35 still works, I would tend to
have doubts if it can do the job in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

5. Comodo Programs Manager comes from a company which I've long believed
to be run by the U.S. government to aid in spying on people. I have no
proof that this is the case, but I prefer to err on the side of caution.
Also (according to one comment) the company has discontinued the program
and recommends that you look for another one.

6. ZSoft Uninstaller doesn't work on 64 bit systems. "The website does
point out that ZSoft Uninstaller cannot remove 64-bit specific software
although removing 32-bit programs on a 64-bit o/s works fine." Too bad
too, because it works great on 32 bit systems.

7. Ashampoo Magical UnInstall "is the predecessor to the shareware
Ashampoo Uninstaller application dating back to 2007 and is completely
free if you use an email address to get a free key. As with all Ashampoo
free products, it’s best to use a temporary email service to avoid being
bombarded with advertising emails. One major drawback of Magical
Uninstall is it won’t work on a 64-bit Windows but still works fine on
32-bit Windows including 7."

Does anybody have any recommendations for a freeware alternative which:

-monitors program installation by taking system snapshots before and
after the program is installed
-which can completely remove the program should you change your mind
about it?
-works with both 32 and 64 bit programs on Windows systems?

TIA

Thanks for replying, Al. I'd rather be able to get a program from its
home page than from a third party website, although dl4.comss.ru looks
on the level. Apparently the home page doesn't have the free version
available anymore or at least I was unable to find it. I did see this:

"To activate Soft Organizer you need a license key. To get a license key
you should purchase a license for Soft Organizer."

on this page though:

http://www.comss.ru/list.php?c=uninstall
it's the latest version ... free ... released August 11th ...but will

I'll explain. Currently, I have hundreds of freeware program setup files
backed up and saved on one of my hard drives. I just bought a cheapo
Dell computer with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on it so that I can start
looking for either newer versions of the freeware which are compatible,
or else alternatives.

The alternative I'm trying to find for Total Uninstall 2.35 must be:

1. freeware
2. under development
3. 64 bit
4. capable of taking before and after snapshots around a program's
installation, so that it can completely uninstall the program later (and
yes, I know that the program you're recommending can do this)
4. easily found and available on its home page.

And just watch, as soon as I get the collection updated, Microsoft and
Linux will both go to 128 bit.

John,

Just found this thread after reviewing the info from:
https://www.raymond.cc/blog/monitor-software-installs-remove-leftovers-install-monitor/

Just was hoping to find out if you have any update on your search. Personally I've used Comodo for years, but I just today saw that it is discontinued. Which I find strange, because this webpage seems like it is still active: https://www.comodo.com/home/support-maintenance/programs-manager.php

In any case, I wasn't aware of what you said about Comodo being possibly government run, can't say I like that idea either. So the search continues for a good alternative. #4 on your list of must haves, do you find that this is much more reliable than Comodo style that actively monitors?

1- free (not freeware, but totally free) - check
2- under development (why, may I ask, if it just works)
3 - 64 bit - check
4 - check - though the latest version is not free.

I'm afraid there is no freeware that does everything old ZSoft
did, though there IS a newer version, but basically they just updated
the /bin files. I do that manually.

They do that just to bugger with my debuggers ....
;)
When it does come, it will be backward compatible with 64 bit,
maybe even have a 32 bit mode. So we are talking a decade. Look at the
bright side - that PC of yours will be very old by then ...

Try this one:

It's no longer being developed, but it's a good one.

It works, and is a lot faster than loading in LibreOffice.
Good find, Tnx.
Just a curiosity. Saving the 132KB License-IObit
Uninstaller6PRO.docx as RTF in LibreOffice OR Docx2Rtf give me a ~2.4
MB file. Saving it in Abiword as RTF, a 190 KB file.
Abiword keeps the "get it free" link. Libre and Dox2Rtf don't.
Probably a macro thing. Like I said, I hate docx.

I saved the file in Docx2Rtf as an .rtf and then opened it in Jarte.
Jarte automatically detects links and displays them so that you can open
them in your browser by holding down the control key while you left
click on them.

Shadow,

I took a brief look at that Soft Organizer, the version offered on Weebly is version 6.02. Do you know if that version is legitimately free, or cracked or something?

Looking at what I believe is the Soft Organizer developer page
http://www.chemtable.com/soft-organizer.htm
The current version they have is 6.05, looks like a license for $20.

I looked on their list of features and didn't see any type before and after snapshot functionality. Have you tested the software and does it have that?

John, did you ever find something that met all your criteria?

I looked on their list of features and didn't see any type before and after snapshot functionality. Have you tested the software and does it have that?
John, did you ever find something that met all your criteria?
I've been using the giveaway version for a while. It is 100%
free, as long as you don't update (turn off auto updates and/or block
www.chemtable.com with your hosts file).
Yes, it makes a before and after snapshot of everything that
happens during installation, or even use of a program, BUT be very
careful to REMOVE anything unrelated before you save the changes,
because when you uninstall, it WILL delete everything in the snapshot.

An example. If you saved "An important letter to the boss.rtf"
while you installed Winamp, "An important letter to the boss.rtf"
WILL be deleted if you use the app to uninstall Winamp.
Same with any other programs altering the registry or disk
during install.
There is a setting where you can make it ignore certain files,
or whole folders. But even then, CHECK the traces log before clicking
"OK".
Other than that, it works just fine.

John: It's right here if you want to try it
http://www.comss.ru/list.php?c=uninstall
it's the latest version ... free ... released August 11th ...but will
not include future updates. But if it works well, who cares?
I'll explain. Currently, I have hundreds of freeware program setup files
backed up and saved on one of my hard drives. I just bought a cheapo
Dell computer with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on it so that I can start
looking for either newer versions of the freeware which are compatible,
or else alternatives.
1. freeware
2. under development
3. 64 bit
4. capable of taking before and after snapshots around a program's
installation, so that it can completely uninstall the program later (and
yes, I know that the program you're recommending can do this)
4. easily found and available on its home page.
http://www.comss.ru/page.php?id=1389
1- free (not freeware, but totally free) - check
2- under development (why, may I ask, if it just works)
Used to not be an issue. After all, TotalUninstall 2.35 is pretty old,
but it still works.

OTOH, with Microsoft pulling crappy stunts these days, you never know
when they'll install an update which will require that an uninstaller
work differently and need to be changed.

4 - check - though the latest version is not free.
I'm afraid there is no freeware that does everything old ZSoft
did, though there IS a newer version, but basically they just updated
the /bin files. I do that manually.
Post by John Corliss
And just watch, as soon as I get the collection updated, Microsoft and
Linux will both go to 128 bit.
They do that just to bugger with my debuggers ....
;)
When it does come, it will be backward compatible with 64 bit,
maybe even have a 32 bit mode. So we are talking a decade. Look at the
bright side - that PC of yours will be very old by then ...
Well I won't be. I'll be long dead.

Shadow,
I took a brief look at that Soft Organizer, the version offered on Weebly
is version 6.02. Do you know if that version is legitimately free, or
cracked or something?

Not yet. I just gave up. At this point I've installed so much shit
without monitoring any of it that in all likelihood I'll have to do a
fresh install of W7 soon.

Whoops. I was thinking of another program.

So anyway, what's the deal with this "Soft Organizer"? Is there a free
version or would I have to buy it, because:

John Corliss BS206. No ad, CD, commercial
It's commercial, but he does a giveaway every 6 months or so.
As do Process Lasso and HDSentinel. Having a large user base is
cheaper than paying ads. Word spreads.
The giveaway is free, you can use it as long as you want as
long as you don't update it.
Something like Kerio 2.1.5. Free, as long as you don't update
it.

Main program title link takes me here:

http://www.comss.info/page.php?al=Soft_Organizer_free

Download link takes me to this page:

http://www.comss.ru

I'm afraid my Russian is a little rusty.

Ahhh! Found it. On this page:

http://www.comss.ru//download/page.php?id=1389

click on the blue rectangle ("ckayatb kak", which means "Download as")
and select the second item on the dropdown. The download comes up clean:

But is there something I need to do to activate it and ensure that it's
free (I know all about the need to avoid updating the program)?

I didn't use a translator, but that just about sums it up.
Some people will argue that it's not freeware because of the "For
non-commercial use" clause.

Just for argument's sake:

Kerio 2.1.5 EULA

3. License After Trial Period
3.1. Home Users
The Software is free for individuals using the Software at home on a
single computer (Home Users). You will be able to use the Software
after expiration of the Trial Period without any additional steps.

3.2. Other Users
All users other than defined in Section 3.1 above have the option
during the Trial Period of paying a license fee in order to be able to
use the Software after expiration of the Trial Period.

Kerio 2.15 is usually listed as "freeware" ...
BTW, Kerio does phone home, but the remote site no longer
resolves. I block it with itself, just in case. And yes, it DOES honor
blocking itself, I checked. Something rare with more modern firewalls.
