I like Yahoo Desktop search, but it's too slow for my system, and
Google Desktop is not as good to find things. Copernics CDS appears
good, but is there a plug-in so it can index my Google Gmail E-mail?

Hi,
I've been using Copernic Desktop Search for a few years now and I'm
really happy with it. Don't use it for Internet, just for my computer.
They didn't index OpenOffice-files, I mailed them and a few weeks later
it supported OpenOffice. So you can try mailing them, they're pretty
supportive.
McAfee SiteAdvisor warns about it changing browser settings etc., but I
didn't notice that. It adds a toolbar to Internet Explorer and things
like that, but that's not strange for a search-program, I think.
