I don't think so.
I used to do a portable install, until I discovered the .exe
install did nothing evil. I think that associations are the only
difference. (ie open *.pdf with pdfviewer --- > a registry entry)

EXE installer provides:
OCRdats, Shell Extention (sic), PDF Preview Handler,
Browser Plugins (Netscape, IE/Active-X), "placeholder" Manual, etc.

I use "portable" version + OCRdats & Manual
